From RH Reality Check:

In a long night of bad news for the pro-choice community and for basically every other sector of the larger progressive movement, there was at least one important victory. In light of the recent tragedies involving LGBT youth, the first is a screening of the film “BULLIED” detailing the story of one young man’s struggle to cope with anti-gay bullies at school.   This screening will be held on October 27th from 6pm to 9pm.  There is no fee for this event.  The goal is to recruit LGBT mentors that are willing to work with young people in Newark.

The second screening is for the Abbott Leadership’s Youth Media Symposium’s documentary “DROPPED.”  The documentary was done by Newark Public Schools High School students.  It seeks to examine the ever worsening crisis of drop outs in our country.

Wear your purple today as a message of solidarity for those who have been lost to bullying and support to those who are survivors and victims of bullying right now.

Witnessing the deaths of now 10 youths in our country who have given up on life because of bullying has been a pretty eye opening, bleak experience. It’s brought tears for me and I cannot cannot cannot imagine the affect being had on the friends and families of these victims.

Read from Paul James at the Better Than Today on who he thinks is to blame, and how we can all help prevent horrific situations like these simply by being humane people.

Want to stand with almost 2000 others in solidarity to honor our young victims?

Click below for inspiring words and memories by Dan and Terry, two men who were openly homosexual in high school and were punished for it by their peers, teachers, and family. It gets better.

If you’re gay or lesbian or bi or trans, and you’ve ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, “Fuck, I wish I could’ve told him that it gets better,” this is your chance. We can’t help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don’t think they have a future—and we can help them….
